As a modern and
forward-looking consumer co-operative it is
vital that United Co-operatives has a healthy
democracy that involves as many of its members
as possible. Any of our customers can become
members provided they live in the Society's
trading area they share the principles and
values detailed in the International
Co-operative Alliance statement on the
co-operative identity (printed on all membership
forms and available in branches); and they
invest a minimum of £1 share capital with the
Society. |
To achieve our
aim of active member participation an accessible
democratic structure has been developed that
offers a wide variety of opportunities for
members. This participation can take a number of
forms, from attending Members' Meetings to
standing for election to the Society's various
Councils and Committees. For democratic purposes
the Society is divided into four regions,
Northern, Yorkshire, Southern and Central. Each
of these regions has a Regional Council
operating in its area. |
